A new channel on CM’s website is highlighting the valuable research carried out by CIOB members in higher education

From social value and safety to sustainability and EDI, CIOB academia members are producing valuable research that can help shape the future of construction.
Now Construction Management has a dedicated academic articles channel where CIOB members working in higher education can share their work with CM’s 45,000 email newsletter subscribers, 80,000 monthly website users and 78,000 social media followers.
The channel is a great way for CIOB academia members to raise the profile of their research, share new thinking and connect with construction professionals across the built environment industry
and in universities.
Each research paper published includes a precis article allowing readers to get a high-level understanding of the issue before downloading the full document.
Examples of research published on the channel already include:
- Social value and construction projects: can it be measured practically by FM clients? A study by Dr Terence Lam MCIOB from Northumbria University, which provides a measurement framework for clients assessing social value when procuring construction projects on university estates
- Can virtual reality help build a more sustainable construction industry? Research by Don Samarasinghe MCIOB from Massey University indicates that VR-based training can play an important role in preparing the construction workforce for emerging sustainable technologies.
- Why EDI and workforce integration should be embedded into construction projects every day. Two pieces of research by Florence Phua FCIOB, challenging assumptions that EDI is a “soft” issue and argues that workforce integration is now critical to delivering safe, high-quality construction.
