McLaren Construction has been appointed to manage projects at Sizewell C, including a new college.

Under the three-year deal, McLaren’s Construction Management and Specialist Projects division will coordinate the site’s post-16 college, temporary accommodation campus and amenity building, a project office, and emergency response building.

Last year, Sizewell C announced it would build a post-16 college – the College on the Coast – in its host town of Leiston.

Vince Lydon, managing director for construction management and specialist projects at McLaren Construction, said: “Through this framework appointment, we are creating long-term local employment opportunities, supporting the community during the construction timeline.”

Damian Leydon, site delivery director of Sizewell C, said: “Only two years after triggering our Development Consent Order, we’re making significant progress on site here in Suffolk. This contract marks another big step forward, as we look to deliver some key construction projects.”

Project impact

More than 2,000 people are now at work on the project on the Suffolk coast. It has delivered more than £3bn in contracts to over 400 British suppliers, with nearly £1bn in contracts awarded to businesses in the region.

Over 70% of Sizewell C’s total construction spend will go to UK businesses, and it will support an average of just under 9,000 direct and indirect jobs a year during the construction period.
