More than 2,000 cu m of concrete were poured to create the first two 90m sections of the viaduct deck structure that will bring HS2 trains into Birmingham’s Curzon Street Station.

A total of 26 piers, between 5m and 6m high, have also been built to carry the viaduct. Four huge steel tripods are currently under construction to support the viaduct over Digbeth Canal.

The viaduct is being built by HS2’s Midlands contractor Balfour Beatty Vinci (BBV) and was designed by BBV’s design joint venture, comprising Mott MacDonald and Systra.
