Video | BAM uses helicopter to install heat pumps on top of London’s Broadgate Tower

BAM has used a helicopter to install 15 air source heat pumps on the upper levels of Broadgate Tower in London.

The usual lifting techniques would have been too disruptive in the busy area around Liverpool Street Station.

The 34-storey office tower was built in 2008 on steelwork above the station.

The contractor was appointed last March to carry out a £100m green refurbishment for client British Land.

Heat pumps will help the scheme reach its targeted BREEAM Outstanding, alongside an EPC A rating.

The challenge was to lift them 160m.

BAM said the operation involved detailed planning, close collaboration and precision from every team involved, including British Land’s project manager, Bianco, and lifting partner Radius.
