Laing O’Rourke’s concrete frame and substructure specialist Expanded has completed a complex staircase at the London College of Fashion, inspired by an orange peel.
The staircase has been designed as a focal point of the new building for the University of the Arts London, by architect Allies and Morrison.
Concrete for the staircase was poured in-situ, with Expanded’s operations leader Anthony Coppola describing the structure as a “work of art”.
Expanded is delivering the London College of Fashion’s concrete frame while Mace is the main contractor for the site in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The new London College of Fashion campus will also have new buildings for Sadler’s Wells dance theatre, the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), and the BBC.
