Galliford Try awarded £56m fire safety upgrade contract for Category C prison

Galliford Try has secured a £56.4m contract to deliver fire safety improvements at HMP Moorland in Hatfield.

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) project includes upgrades to essential fire safety systems across the Category C prison, such as fire alarms, emergency lighting, fire compartmentalisation, smoke extraction, roof vents, high-pressure misting units and fire doors.

It is the second major fire safety upgrade contract Galliford Try has won this year. In February, it was awarded a £44.5m fire safety improvements contract at HMP Wakefield.

Matt Raynor, Galliford Try’s operations manager at HMP Moorland, said: “We have been working collaboratively at HMP Moorland for the past three years and have established a great relationship with the establishment. The team is looking forward to continuing our close collaboration on the [fire safety improvements] programme and using our existing knowledge of the prison to ensure the project is a success.”

Ian Jubb, managing director of Galliford Try’s building division, added: “Winning this contract is a testament to the expertise and strong track record of our team in delivering critical upgrades within secure environments.

“Fire safety is a key priority for the MoJ, and we are proud to be playing our part in ensuring the highest standards are met at HMP Moorland. We look forward to working closely with the client and stakeholders to successfully deliver this vital programme of works.”
