Proposal for building regs Part Z launched
A group of more than 150 organisations in the UK building industry, including the Chartered Institute of Building, has put forward a plan for a new element for the building regulations, called Part Z, according to Construction Management. This would incorporate requirements for the assessment of whole life carbon emissions for all major building projects.
UK BIM Alliance annual survey
The UK BIM Alliance has launched its annual survey in order to continue to measure the understanding and adoption of information management using BIM across the UK built environment.
Robot plans floors three times faster
Belgian contractor Besix is using an autonomous robot to trace floor plans in the 250-metre-tall Mohammed VI Tower under construction in Morocco, according to Global Construction Review. The BIMPrinter topographic robot traces the exact outlines of partition walls with complex geometry straight onto floor slabs, guided by the digital model of the building.

The Department for Transport has announced the £30m Live Labs 2 competition that will fund projects aimed at decarbonising local highways infrastructure in regions across the UK. There will be a particular focus on making the construction, maintenance and running of the UK’s roads more sustainable.
Simon Cross has joined Mott MacDonald’s digital advisory team to head up a new modern methods of construction (MMC) service. As MMC advisory director, Simon will focus on developing MMC and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly strategies for major clients. Enscape 3.3 launched
Enscape has launched the latest update of its real-time visualisation, 3D rendering, and virtual reality technology. New features include the ability to import a project’s surroundings into renderings by using OpenStreetMap data.
Knauf launches BIM plug-in
Knauf has launched Planner Suite, a BIM plug-in for Revit and ArchiCAD. Its guided search function provides specifiers with an overview of products and systems that match project requirements, such as fire protection or sound insulation. The tool also considers factors such as regional availability.
PlanRadar improves integration capability
PlanRadar has enhanced its integration capabilities with the launch of PlanRadar Connect, powered by the enterprise automation platform, Workato. This will make PlanRadar faster and easier to integrate with more than 200 pre-built connectors, such as Outlook, Dropbox, Jira, SAP and Microsoft Dynamics.
