Arup has been appointed to lead the design and delivery of a new Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station as part of the £2.5bn Thameside West regeneration scheme in London’s Royal Docks.
Developer Arada has picked Arup to work alongside architect Gensler and landscape architect Planit to deliver the first phase of the 19-hectare riverside development, which has outline consent for at least 5,000 homes.
The first phase will comprise 1,500 homes across six buildings together with a new public park. Arada said the proposals have been redesigned to meet the latest building safety standards and regulatory requirements.
The developer is preparing to submit a planning application for the first phase this summer, with construction expected to begin in early 2028, subject to approval.
Construction of the first phase will be undertaken in-house by Arada London, using its vertically integrated model.
A new DLR station is planned to serve the development and surrounding area, with Arada working alongside Transport for London to deliver the infrastructure. The developer said the station is intended to be open before the first residents move into the scheme.
Overall, Thameside West will provide at least 5,000 homes, including 35% affordable housing, alongside green space covering around half the site and a kilometre of publicly accessible waterfront.
Wider regeneration
The scheme is being delivered in partnership with the Greater London Authority’s land and property company, GLAP, as part of the wider regeneration of the Royal Docks.
