Zip wire between landmark Liverpool buildings gets green light

Councillors in Liverpool have approved plans for a 400m-long, £5m zip wire between St John’s Beacon and Liverpool Central Library.

The attraction will be the UK’s first urban zip wire and met opposition from some councillors who argued the noise would be disrespectful to nearby war memorials.

The zip wire, to be operated by Zip World, will run over St George’s Place, St John’s Gardens and William Brown Street before it reaches the library.

Zip World owner Sean Taylor said the attraction would not operate on Hillsborough Memorial Day, Armistice Day, Remembrance Day and Christmas Day. It is expected to open in 2021.
