CIOB Company Networking Breakfast.

4 February 9.30am-12pm Humanscale, London

The CIOB is hosting a series of networking breakfasts with short presentations aimed at organisations over the next 12 months with Humanscale looking at ergonomic solutions and sustainable manufacturing.

The first if these will be hosted within the London showroom on Wednesday 4 February and will explore Workplace Ergonomics.

Traditional office furniture has been keeping people still at work for over 50 years – desks that don’t move, screens sat on the desktop and chairs that people don’t know how to operate!

Ergonomics is about designing for people, defined as the science of fitting the workplace to the user, to improve efficiency, productivity and comfort. With modern workplaces relying heavily on computers, ergonomics is more important than ever, every element should be evaluated to create a healthier workplace at the office and at home.

Join the CIOB to explore the significance, benefits and added value that Humanscale’s sophisticated ergonomic tools and workplace solutions bring to both the employer and employees, along with enhancing guest experience in any built environment.

Limited to 20 places.

*Please note that Humanscale have very kindly offered workstations which can be available for you to work from 09:30 prior to the CIOB meeting and greeting you and the event start – If arriving at this time please do just advise them that you are here for the event

Mainstreaming Heritage Construction: A Route Map for the Industry

10 February 12-1pm online

Discover why heritage construction isn’t a niche craft, but a core part of everyday building work.

With over six million traditional pre-1919 buildings across the country, understanding how to maintain and retrofit these structures correctly is vital for quality, sustainability, and profitability.

The session will demonstrate how heritage competence offers contractors a clear business advantage — enabling access to new markets, higher-value projects, and stronger reputations for quality and craftsmanship. It will outline a practical route map for contractors to enter the heritage sector, upskill teams, and align their work with national Net Zero and retrofit objectives.

Mike Dennis will present an inspiring case study in the second part of the webinar. Trained as a carpenter specialising in timber framing, Mike’s carpentry journey has taken him around the world, having worked on projects such as the Kinsol Trestle bridge on Vancouver Island; a heritage centre with Carpenter’s Without Borders in Guizhou, China; and notably the Nave of Notre Dame de Paris as carpenter and experimental archaeologist. Mike holds an MSc in Timber Building Conservation and an MA in Historic Buildings with the University of York.

The webinar concludes with details of training and development opportunities through the Tywi Centre, delivered by Nell Hellier. The centre which supports contractors, craftspeople, and SMEs across the UK in developing heritage and retrofit expertise. Hellier is a heritage educator, specialising in the conservation, maintenance, and sustainable adaptation of traditional buildings. She serves as Senior Built Heritage Officer and Tywi Centre Manager at Carmarthenshire County Council, where she leads the Tywi Centre.
