Tottenham Court Road station
Crossrail has released videos showing behind-the-scenes progress at six of Crossrail’s new stations, ahead of the Elizabeth Line’s expected opening in summer 2021.
Crossrail chief executive Mark Wild said that the delayed Crossrail project had enjoyed a “very productive” 2019. All electrical systems on the line have now been energised, the platform screen doors installed, and train control software is reaching maturity.
Meanwhile, Farringdon is one of a number of stations that are now “PPE-free”. However, Bond Street station has faced significant delay, which Crossrail has previously blamed on over-running tunnelling works.
Wild added that although he now feels confident that trial running of the Elizabeth Line will begin in autumn this year, there is a lot of work to do to prepare it before then.
He warned that the assurance regime for the line is “complex and challenging”, with the integration between PA systems, smoke alarms, and fire suppression systems still to be tested, among other features of the railway and stations.
