A major crane operation successfully lifted new air source heat pumps to the top of one of Transport for London’s largest office buildings in Blackfriars.
Four old chillers were removed and three new air source heat pumps installed as part of a wider decarbonisation programme, which aims to save more than 1,500 tonnes of carbon each year.
The crane lift, which took place at the busy Blackfriars Road and Union Street junction in south London, required careful planning and collaboration between TfL, Thames Water, Southwark Council and Network Rail, as well as residents and businesses.
The project is part of infrastructure provider Vital Energi’s upgrades to existing heating, lighting, cooling and controls systems within TfL’s Palestra House offices.
