A new training scheme has been launched to help improve competence in damp proof course (DPC) installation.

The Visqueen Registered Installer Scheme has been developed in partnership with the National Masonry Academy – part of the Masonry Association of Great Britain – and supported by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) via its national training standards and Approved Training Organisation service.

The scheme will focus on delivering third-party assessed qualifications and digital verification tools aimed at raising the benchmark for professionalism and safety in construction.

The training programme, approved by CITB and delivered through the National Masonry Academy, consists of a one-day course that includes both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.

It is specifically tailored around the installation of Visqueen’s DPC systems, using the industry-standard Installing Specialist Cloak Systems module.

Training can be provided either on-site or at one of the affiliated training centres.

Anthony Goode, national specification manager at Visqueen, said: “This exciting new initiative is open to all brickwork contractors across the United Kingdom and represents a significant step forward in our commitment to training and quality assurance.

“It ensures that all stakeholders, from contractors and site managers to specifiers and end clients, can have complete confidence in the quality and consistency of DPC installation on site.”

Strengthening integrity

To support ongoing competency and compliance, the National Masonry Association has introduced the Visqueen Register of Approved Installers – Continuous On-site Competency App.

Designed for installers who complete training with the National Masonry Academy, the app allows users – including installers, employers and administrators – to verify and track professional competence in real time.

Eve Livett, CEO of the National Masonry Academy, added: “The scheme strengthens the integrity of the entire construction supply chain by reducing the risk of non-compliance and embedding a culture of corporate responsibility.

“It offers clients and contractors confidence that installations are being carried out by fully trained, independently assessed professionals who meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

“As the industry adapts to the demands of the Building Safety Act, initiatives like this are essential for building trust, improving outcomes and futureproofing the workforce.”
