A CIOB Tomorrow’s Leaders event in Suffolk will highlight the breadth of careers available across construction and the built environment, with a particular focus on non-traditional roles and career pathways.
Building Futures: Careers in Construction takes place at West Suffolk College’s Extended Reality Lab in Bury St Edmunds on 3 November. The free event, sponsored by Pentaco and Bowmer and Kirkland, will feature talks from industry professionals, employer networking and careers advice.
Speakers include John McLellan, offshore construction manager at renewable energy specialist Cadeler; Conor Nolan, director of digital surveying company Spacion; and Siu Mun Li, director of Constructing Siu-lutions and a former Most Influential Woman in Construction.
McLellan began his career as an apprentice and has worked on projects across the UK and internationally. Nolan’s career demonstrates the growing role of digital technology in construction, with Spacion specialising in scan-to-BIM surveys, point-cloud data and digital twins.
Li has more than two decades’ experience in construction engineering and has worked on major projects including HS1, the Stratford Olympic Park bridges and Crossrail. She now runs a consultancy specialising in temporary works, preconstruction and buildability.
Representatives from Pentaco’s Young Persons Board will also share their experiences, while employers including Pentaco, Vertas Group, Bowmer and Kirkland, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, Lovell Partnerships and Barnes Construction will be available to discuss career opportunities.
The event is being organised by the CIOB Cambridge, Chelmsford, Ipswich and Norwich Hubs and takes place from 5pm to 7.30pm.
