Smart Scaffolder is launching a voice-recognition app to enable scaffolders to complete their records simply by speaking into their smart devices.

The new Smart Forms AI Assistant listens to the user, understands the context and intelligently populates the form, allowing many routine records to be completed in around half the time while keeping the user focused on the job at hand, according to Smart Scaffolder.

If mandatory information is missing, or the AI isn’t sufficiently confident that it has interpreted something correctly, it highlights the field for review rather than making assumptions. The competent person always retains complete control before the form is submitted.

The initial release focuses on the forms that every scaffold contractor relies upon, including:

  • incident reports;
  • harness and lanyard inspections;
  • tie test records;
  • toolbox talks;
  • site audits;
  • vehicle checks; and
  • permits and other custom Smart Forms.

Removing friction

Smart Scaffolder noted in a press release: “Across the industry, contractors complete thousands of safety and compliance records every week. Many of these are recommended or required as part of robust management systems aligned with NASC guidance and good practice.

“Whether it’s recording an incident, carrying out a harness and lanyard inspection, documenting a tie test, delivering a toolbox talk, completing a site audit or undertaking daily vehicle checks, every form takes time away from productive work.

“While digital forms have already replaced much of the paperwork, they still require operatives to stop, navigate multiple screens and manually enter information – often while wearing gloves or working in challenging site conditions. Smart Forms removes much of that friction.”

The AI assistant represents the first stage of Smart Scaffolder’s wider AI roadmap. Throughout next year, the company plans to introduce AI across additional products within the Smart platform, including an AI assistant for Smart Estimator. This will enable estimators to describe a scaffold in plain English and automatically generate the initial scaffold model ready for review and pricing.

Smart Scaffolder is also planning further developments for scaffold inspections, scaffold handovers and additional compliance workflows.

Smart Scaffolder will be exhibiting at ScaffEx on 10-11 September at Manchester Central.
