Saint-Gobain Off-Site Solutions and Hilti Great Britain have joined forces to improve timber construction in the UK and support government plans to build 1.5 million homes.
The collaboration is targeting improvements in digitalisation, health and safety, productivity and sustainability.
Saint-Gobain produces structural timber systems and offsite-manufactured components. Improvements now being rolled out include: new digital asset management platform ON!Track (O!T); advanced tool safety features, training and site assessments; Hilti fleet management; and onsite Hilti support.
Hilti Great Britain vice-president of sales, Thibaud Lefebvre, said offsite construction presents a “significant opportunity”. He added: “Our work with Saint-Gobain demonstrates how digitalisation and innovation can unlock new levels of efficiency and long-term value in timber construction.”
The collaboration also aligns with the Timber in Construction Roadmap, which interim CEO of the Structural Timber Association, Andrew Orriss, described as “an important step forward”.
Orriss added: “With the government aiming to deliver 1.5 million new homes, structural timber presents a practical, scalable and low-carbon solution to help meet that target.
“This kind of partnership shows the industry is aligned and ready to build at scale.”
