The School of Architecture, Design and Built Environment at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) will be running its first introduction courses to BIM later this year.
The one and three-day courses, both entitled “Introduction to Building Information Modelling (BIM) and AutoDesk Revit”, are aimed at beginners wanting to develop their critical understanding of BIM and learn how collaborative design models are generated.
Developed internally by the university, the courses will allow attendees to gain an understanding of working with BIM models, data sharing and merging information using the UK industry standards.

“The courses are targeted at either designers or contractors who want an introduction to the technical side of BIM,” says Benachir Medjdoub, professor of digital architectural design at NTU.
The one-day course takes place on 18 April and will cost £300, with the three-day course following on 10-12 June and costing £720. Upon completion of the courses attendees will receive a CPD certificate.
“We’re dipping our toe I suppose,” says Peter Westland MCIOB, head of the School of Architecture Design and the Built Environment. “I can’t see any reason why these courses won’t be well received, and if they are then of course we will roll out more.
“We will be aiming to do more specialist courses as I believe hands-on experience is what the industry needs most. People want to get their hands dirty.”
