A new initiative from Nationwide Platforms has encouraged workers to share an action or change that has helped support their mental health.
Launched during Mental Health Awareness Week, One Small Thing involved Nationwide employees anonymously sharing ideas such as taking a break during the working day, enjoying some fresh air in between jobs, and asking for help if a task was becoming overwhelming.
All ideas, suggestions and actions were collected and emailed across the business during the week, and a digital bulletin board was created to share further tips and guidance.
‘Imperative’
Citing Mental Health UK’s Burnout Report, which reveals that one in five UK workers had to take time off work due to stress in 2025, Karen Maguire, HR director at Nationwide Platforms, explained why wellbeing initiatives, like their own, are important.
“With the UK amidst a mental health crisis, it’s imperative that activities such as One Small Thing are implemented to not only raise awareness of the importance of support with mental health, but to equip employees with an arsenal of actionable changes they can use in their own lives to allow them to help themselves,” she said.
“It’s an employer’s responsibility to do everything they can to support their team and ensure that they understand what options are available to them if they need further help.”
