The Mace Dragados joint venture has trialled a solar charge pod, which allows workers to charge battery-powered tools emissions free.
Mace Dragados trialled the solar charge pod, from Sunbelt Rentals, with workers able to charge a range of small tools. The JV is building the £570m HS2 Birmingham Curzon Street station.
The pod contains 36 individual charging lockers and it was trialled on site for 23 days. Mace Dragados calculated that it saved 4.37kg of carbon dioxide emissions and £1,159 in fuel costs during its use, as compared to a 10kvA generator using 3l of fuel per hour.
