The new Bakerloo line ticket hall at Paddington London Underground station has opened after a team including Mace completed a 12-year-long revamp.
London Paddington is the second-busiest station in the UK with 59 million entries and exits in 2023, according to the Office of Rail and Road. It was the sixth-busiest station in the country the previous year. The opening of the Elizabeth Line has been a principal contributing factor to the increase in passenger levels.
The new ticket hall has been designed to deal with peak-hour congestion and passenger flow. It also has step-free access from the street to platforms and has direct access to the Elizabeth line.
The opening marks the end of a 12-year upgrade delivered by Mace, WSP and Scott Brownrigg.
It was commissioned by Sellar on behalf of owner Great Western Developments Ltd.
