JCB is to create 500 new shop floor jobs as its chief executive remarked that the company had "never seen anything like" the level of demand it is currently experiencing.
The firm will add the additional agency employees to its 11 plants in Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Wrexham, in addition to the 850 shop floor jobs it has already created in 2021.
The company is also offering an additional 300 agency employees permanent JCB contracts, which will bring the total number of agency shop floor employees given permanent jobs this year to 1,000.
The new recruitment came as JCB has sold out most of its construction and agricultural machines until next year.
Chief executive Graeme Macdonald said: “The recovery continues to gather momentum and we have tens of thousands of new machine orders sitting on our books stretching well into next year. We have never seen anything like this in the 75-year history of JCB. As well as earning a competitive salary with the opportunity for overtime and enhanced shift allowances, there is great potential for new recruits to progress to permanent roles with JCB.”
Demand for JCB machines has bounced back since the onset of the covid-19 pandemic last year. In May 2020, JCB announced it was cutting up to 950 staff jobs as well as 500 agency roles after demand for machines halved.
