VolkerStevin has lifted into place the final steel section of the New Wear footbridge in Sunderland.
Spanning 105m, the steel section is the last part of the structural frame to be installed before fitting out works can begin.
Civil engineer VolkerStevin has overseen the complex development and installation of the £31m pedestrian and cyclist bridge.
Mike Rimmer, senior project manager at VolkerStevin, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the whole team and a testament to the hard work, coordination and collaboration between our lifting and marine teams to ensure all the lifts could be completed successfully and safely.”

Hi
Has an opening date been announced yet?
Hi Carol, the bridge is expected to open in summer 2025.
Surely we have the expertise and facilities to manufacture bridges and the like within UK thereby mitigating all the carbon emissions in transportation plus supporting local business and trade?
