Laing O’Rourke has installed the first giant roof truss at Everton FC’s new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium.
The contractor lifted the 100-tonne section of steelwork into place in the north stand yesterday (Wednesday) morning. It is the first in a series of lifts over the coming weeks at both ends of the stadium offering a first view of its full height of just under 45m.
The stadium will have five roof trusses – two in the smaller north stand and three on top of the one-tier south stand.
Each truss, which initially rest on temporary support trestles built into the stand, consists of three sections. They are assembled at ground level and lifted into placed individually. Each of these 15 steelwork sections weighs approximately 100 tonnes.
The completed roof trusses will have clear spans of between 150 and 175 metres. The depth of the trusses varies between 4 metres deep at the supports, to around 11.5 metres at mid-span.
Last month, Everton FC released a video showing Laing O’Rourke’s progress on other aspects of the £500m stadium.
It has built a new structure to connect the rear of north stand to the roof trusses. Elsewhere, Laing O’Rourke has taken delivery of the concrete raker beams for the construction of the east stand. And it has poured concrete on the third level at the west stand.
The 52,000-capacity Bramley-Moore Dock is scheduled to open in mid-2024.
