Tilbury Douglas has become the first tier one contractor to deploy a humanoid robot on a live construction site.
The robot, named Douglas, has been introduced to support and assist site teams by undertaking time-consuming administrative data-collection tasks, allowing colleagues to focus on technical and operational responsibilities, the contractor says.
Douglas can autonomously navigate the construction site and capture 360-degree imagery and detailed progress reports, which can also support health-and-safety monitoring and reporting processes.
Efficiency
Tilbury Douglas hopes the initiative can save an average of 40 hours per month, driving greater efficiency while maintaining high standards of compliance and oversight.
Mark Buckle, technical director at the contractor, said: “The construction industry continues to face a skills shortage and ongoing resource challenges. By utilising innovative technology such as this robot, we can automate key processes, assist our teams and enable our people to focus their expertise where it adds the greatest value.”
