HS2 has restarted procurement for Birmingham Curzon Street station, upping the contract value by £136m, after an initial lack of interest from bidders.
The new contract for the Phase One station is worth £571m and is a two-stage design and build contract.
HS2 terminated the original contract, worth £435m, in July last year after “lower-than-anticipated market appetite”, with contractors thought to be unhappy about the amount of risk they were required to take on.
The deadline for tenders on the new contract is 12 March this year, with the contract expected to complete in January 2028. The minimum number of candidates expected to be involved is four, with a maximum of five.
In a notice posted in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), HS2 said: “The contractor will be appointed to design and build the new Midlands station to budget and programme, including detailed design, construction and commissioning and associated works and services.
“As well as awarding the contract, HS2 Ltd will also enter into a framework agreement with unsuccessful tenderers whose technical submissions at ITT (invitation to tender) stage achieve a minimum threshold evaluation score.”
