Women looking to start a career in home building are being invited to apply for the ninth cohort of the Women into Home Building programme.

The initiative, led by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) and delivered by Pathway CTM in partnership with national and regional housebuilders, provides women with fully-funded training and practical site experience.

The three-week programme begins with a week of online training and industry insight sessions, followed by a two-week work experience placement on a live construction site.

More than 215 candidates have taken part in the programme since it launched, with over 60 subsequently offered employment in the industry.

The programme was also named Career Development Initiative of the Year at the 2026 Women in Housing and Housing Heroes Awards.

Paige Farrier, who took part in the eighth cohort, said the experience had helped her secure a role as a trainee assistant site manager.

“During the programme, we got to learn about all the opportunities in the construction industry,” she said. “I learned so much on my two-week placement about how a site runs and what it really takes, and that learning is still ongoing now.

“I would absolutely recommend applying – if it was not for this programme, I would not have the job role I have today.”

Confidence and knowledge

Andy George, director of industry attraction and skills at the HBF, said the programme was helping to widen the pool of talent entering home building.

“By combining industry insight with practical experience, the programme can help challenge misconceptions about careers in the sector and give participants the confidence and knowledge to take their next step,” he said.

The latest recruitment window opened on 17 August and closes at midnight on 20 September, with placements due to take place in November.

The programme is open to women considering a career change, returning to work, entering the industry after graduating or seeking a new opportunity at any stage of their working lives.

Applications can be made through the Women into Home Building programme website.
