Dame Judith Hackitt
Dame Judith Hackitt will advise the government on the creation of a new Building Safety Regulator, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has announced.
Hackitt, who oversaw a review into Building Regulations and fire safety in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster, will provide independent advice to the government on how to set up the new body.
The Regulator will oversee the design and management of buildings, with a focus on ensuring the new regime for higher-risk buildings is robust. It will also have the power to apply criminal sanctions to building owners who do not obey the new regime.
Communities secretary Robert Jenrick said: “I am grateful that Dame Judith has agreed to advise my department on the new Building Safety Regulator.
“Her expertise will be essential to forming a strong Regulator with teeth to ensure all residents are safe, and feel safe, in their homes both now and in the future.”
The government published the consultation on its reforms, Building a Safer Future, in June 2019 and is currently analysing the responses. Its response is due by the end of the year.

I believe that the issue is not with design it is with inspecting and signing off work as properly carried out and in not “value engineering” [read cost cutting ]
approved designs
For example crucial fire stopping should be installed and inspected certified by
a certified contractor/fire engineering company

I sincerely hope that this covers the electrical wiring system for emergency critical supplies to essential services. Past experiences of fires in high rise buildings have been electrically related.
