The government has launched a call for evidence to inform future policy on those working in the building professions, trade and occupations.

It follows the government’s announcement in its Single Construction Regulator Prospectus (at the end of 2025) that it will publish a new strategy for the built environment workforce.

The call for evidence is structured into five parts: pre-design; design and specification; construction; occupation and maintenance; and cross-cutting issues, themes, and challenges.

Respondents have the choice to complete all parts, or those that are relevant to their area, interest, or expertise. It calls for real-world examples and quantitative data, if possible.

Input is requested from those who work across the entire building lifecycle, including:

  • those directly employed in the full range of built environment professions, trades and occupations;
  • clients (commercial, public sector and domestic);
  • manufacturers;
  • education providers;
  • those working in adjacent sectors such as insurance;
  • legal and financial services and
  • professional bodies, trade bodies, statutory regulators, and consumer or representative organisations.

The open call for evidence can be found here.
