A conference next month will examine how construction’s safety agenda must move beyond compliance and regulation.
The Association for Project Safety (APS) annual national conference on 9 September in Birmingham will feature speakers including Dame Judith Hackitt, as well as industry specialists and thought leaders.
The APS said the event, titled Beyond Compliance: When Regulation Is Only the Starting Point, would look at how future culture and practices “must be digital, accurate, secure and intelligent, and where dutyholders are expected to commit to a high-quality built environment, not just compliance” to achieve “whole system change” in industry practices.
The body added: “The real challenge for clients, consultants and contractors is building collaborations where competence, culture and accountability are embedded throughout every stage of a project.”

The event will include a panel session on Post-Grenfell developments across the four UK nations, which will bring together senior policy leaders from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to discuss regulatory and policy developments following the 2017 tragedy.
