The government has launched a new £2.8bn programme to build six new large hospitals, to be delivered by 2025.
Health and social care secretary Matt Hancock announced the move on Sunday, just ahead of the Conservative Party Conference and today’s publication of a new Health Infrastructure Plan.
The government said it had also given the go-ahead to 21 schemes with the seed funding they need to develop their business cases, with the aim of delivering between 2025 and 2030, subject to business case approvals.
If the business cases are approved then there could be up to 40 hospital building projects, as some schemes involve the development of more than one hospital site.
