Forterra has become the latest materials firm to announce that it will fire up its kilns and restart brick production after a temporary halt in production.
Since it closed most of its manufacturing sites last month, the company has been planning alternative working practices that it said would enable manufacturing to restart while allowing staff to socially distance.
One of its brick plants will reopen this week with production of its hollowcore product at Bison Precast in Swadlincote also restarting.
It then plans to reopen two more plants in May, with the majority of plants reopening during June and July due to the “current high inventory levels”.
Stephen Harrison, chief executive at Forterra said: “This move means that we are able to support our housebuilder customers as they also begin the process of returning to work over the coming days and weeks, ramping up our production as and when inventory and demand from the market requires.
“This return to business is encouraging and we must all adjust to new ways of working that ensure the safety of our staff and our customers and the continued success of our industry."
Forterra’s announcement follows news last week that both Michelmersh and Ibstock would also restart brick production.
