Construction ranked fourth for employee satisfaction

A new report on workplace satisfaction shows building and construction professionals are some of the happiest across all sectors

The Career Happiness Index, collated by The Futures Group, shows building and construction received the fourth highest workplace satisfaction score among UK workers.

The research analysed Glassdoor data on culture, diversity, work/life balance, senior leadership, compensation, and career development to provide insight into workplace happiness across different sectors.

The report revealed building and construction performed particularly well with high scores in diversity and inclusion, as well as workplace culture.

Accounting and finance claimed joint top spot with healthcare, while legal and travel and tourism were in second and third place, respectively.

Reflecting on the data, Amanda Payne, director of operations at The Futures Group, said: “A fulfilling career is more than the tasks we perform; it’s about creating an environment where individuals can thrive, grow, and find joy in their daily endeavours. This not only enhances personal satisfaction but also contributes significantly to overall workplace dynamics.

“As we introduce our Career Happiness Index, we encourage both individuals and businesses to take a moment to assess and enhance their own career satisfaction. Gaining insights into industry trends and incorporating practical advice can be empowering for individuals and contribute to creating a work environment that supports increased productivity, lower turnover, and enhanced profitability.

“The building and construction industry is beginning to adopt digital methods, such as digital twins to visualise the progress of the jobsite, which is likely to make the jobs of the people working on these sites easier, and will further contribute to their workplace satisfaction.”
