Construction for Women has launched a year-long leadership development programme for women in the early stages of their careers across construction and the built environment, following its inaugural Emerging Leaders Conference in Manchester.

Held at KPMG Manchester on 8 October, the event brought together emerging female talent for networking, career development and discussions about progression in the industry.

The Emerging Leaders Programme aims to identify and support women with leadership potential during the first five years of their careers, providing access to mentoring, professional development, senior industry figures and a wider network of peers.

The Manchester event marks the first in a planned series of regional conferences, with Liverpool and Leeds next on the programme as Construction for Women seeks to build a nationwide network of future female leaders.

The initiative is designed to extend beyond individual events, with participants receiving structured support over 12 months. This includes mentoring, opportunities to collaborate across disciplines, industry engagement and practical experience intended to build confidence, strengthen professional relationships and improve career prospects.

Class of 100

Construction for Women plans to select a Class of 100 women in each of eight UK cities, creating a network of 800 emerging leaders across construction, property, infrastructure and related professions.

The programme also aims to raise participants’ visibility within the industry and create opportunities to engage with employers and senior decision-makers.

KPMG hosted the inaugural Manchester conference, with Gallaway as main sponsor and Morgan Sindall Construction also supporting the event.

The next conferences are scheduled for Liverpool and Leeds, on 15 October and 3 December respectively, with many other cities in the pipeline. Women within the first five years of their careers can apply, while employers and industry organisations are encouraged to nominate emerging talent.
