CITB launches free digital skills mentoring service for SMEs

The CITB has launched a free digital skills mentoring service, known as Digital Construction Skills, aimed primarily at SMEs.
It is funded by the CITB to help construction companies develop the skills they need to drive digital transformation in their business. Focused on SME business owners, directors and senior managers, the initiative aims to demystify digital tools and help firms choose the best option to align with their goals.
All mentors on the programme have recent, real-world experience of the construction industry and are specialists in the technical and commercial aspects of digital construction. This includes digitalising information flow and physical elements, such as 3D models and reality capture.
Mentors can help support businesses wherever they are on the digital journey, with 15-, 30- or 60-minute meeting slot available to be booked online.

User feedback so far
A number of SMEs have already used the service, including Glasgow-based civil engineering specialist Mackenzie Construction. Its MD Andy Dalrymple said: “Digital Construction Skills helped us access funding to help us train our staff in a new digital platform we are rolling out across our business.”
Ed Clement, owner of Patterson Bailey Engineers, said: “Thanks to free support from Digital Construction Skills, I am adding several new revenue streams to my business including carrying out drone surveys and setting out construction works.”
Finally, David Minns, operations director of building services engineers GAC Environmental, said: “The support helped us get all the right people together in one room, and get to the point where we were able to make a clear decision on the priority areas for digital tools.”
