The Construction Industry Council (CIC) has launched a call for evidence to inform a probe into the government’s housing targets.
Under the question “How can we build 1.5m quality homes in this Parliament?”, CIC is asking industry experts and anyone interested in the issue to share strategy proposals and innovative solutions that could help achieve this homebuilding target.
CIC is particularly interested in submissions that address the following areas:
- Economic viability: How can economic viability and high quality be balanced? What are the current barriers to that?
- Sustainable building practices: How can new homes be environmentally friendly and energy-efficient?
- Affordable housing solutions: What strategies can be implemented to make housing more affordable for all income levels?
- Innovative construction techniques: How can modern construction methods and technologies accelerate the building process while maintaining quality?
- Policy and regulatory frameworks: What changes in policy and regulation are necessary to support the rapid construction of quality homes?
- Community and infrastructure development: How can new housing developments be well-integrated with local communities and infrastructure?
- Flood risk management: How can building in areas of higher flood risk be avoided to minimise potential damage and ensure safety?
Submissions should be sent to [email protected] by 14 May 2025.
They should include examples of proven strategies and be no more than four pages.
