The BSI has launched a Kitemark for digital twins. The new certification scheme aims to help organisations demonstrate that their digital twin capability is secure, well governed and delivering measurable business outcomes.

The BSI Kitemark for Digital Twins is built on the BS ISO/IEC 30186 Digital Twin Maturity Model and additional requirements covering governance, competency, security, risk management and value realisation.

It assesses both the maturity of a specific digital twin and the organisation’s ability to deploy, govern and continually improve digital twin solutions over time. It provides confidence that clear ownership, accountability and controls are in place, while demonstrating that digital twins are being used to deliver measurable operational outcomes aligned to business objectives.

The first BSI digital twin Kitemark has been awarded to Neuron, a smart building management systems specialist in Hong Kong. According to the BSI, the digital twin, maturity model and assessment guidance independently verified how effectively Neuron’s live digital twins and supporting systems are managed, from their intended purpose through to value, security and ongoing management.

Andy Butterfield, managing director of built environment at the BSI, said: “Digital twins have the potential to transform how organisations use data and AI to manage assets, infrastructure and operations, helping to deliver better outcomes for people, places and the planet.

“Neuron’s certification shines a light on the way forward: a pathway for organisations around the world to adopt digital twin technology with confidence, accelerate best practice globally and turn technological ambition into measurable improvements in sustainability, operational efficiency and long-term value.”
