The British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA) has appointed well-known steel industry senior manager Jonathan Clemens as its new chief executive officer.

Clemens’ career includes a six-year stint as head of marketing at Tata Steel and managing director at Corus. Most recently, he was managing director of steel building products manufacturing subsidiary Catnic.

He will be supported in his role by current BCSA chief executive Dr David Moore, who will become a part-time deputy CEO.

Moore said: “It has been a highly rewarding five years [as BCSA’s CEO], during which a lot of groundwork has been laid to ensure the continuing success of constructional steelwork. Jonathan is the ideal candidate to lead the BCSA on the next stage of its development and I look forward to working with him.”

Clemens said: “After such a long career in the steel industry, this is the perfect role for me. It is a great opportunity to contribute to the ongoing success story of the constructional steelwork sector, which is recognised as world-leading.

“BCSA is one of the most prestigious trade associations of any type. It is a privilege to be entrusted with taking it forward as the entire steel supply chain strives to meet the challenges of net zero.”
