Autodesk launches Informed Design to link designers and manufacturers

Autodesk has launched Autodesk Informed Design, a cloud-based solution that connects design and manufacturing workflows.
Autodesk Informed Design allows architects to work with customisable, predefined building products, and manufacturers to share their products with design stakeholders.
“The way the AECO industry works today is not sustainable or scalable. For the industry to keep pace, it needs to build more, faster and more sustainably. The answer is industrialised construction,” said Ryan McMahon, director and general manager of Informed Design at Autodesk.

Revit and Inventor add-ins
The new software is available for Revit and Inventor. Informed Design for Revit is for designers and, according to Autodesk, includes:
template discovery, which allows users to explore building product templates to incorporate manufacturing-level detail into design files;
customisation, enabling the tailoring of building products to align with a building’s requirements, while maintaining compliance with the manufacturers’ specifications; and
certainty, meaning design decisions can be confirmed as accurate and ‘manufacturable’ to reduce project risk and prevent errors.
Informed Design for Inventor enables product managers and product engineers to align their manufacturing capabilities with customer requirements. According to Autodesk, this add-in:
helps users to collaborate with designers by creating parametric models of their building products, and confirm that only compliant versions are used;
enables users to define BIM content to confirm their building products meet project requirements and are compatible with other components and industry standards; and
simplifies the generation of product documentation at scale and generates the necessary outputs for fabrication.
