‘Fish’ by Pedro Luis Ajuriaguerra Saiz
Two photographers – one amateur and one professional – have each won £1,500 in cash after they took the top prizes in the Chartered Institute of Building’s (CIOB) The Art of Building competition.
Fish (pictured above) by Pedro Luis Ajuriaguerra Saiz from Spain was the winner with his image of the L’Hemisfèric building, which is part of Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences.
‘Metrostation’ by Alexandr Bormotin
Alexandr Bormotin from Russia won the Public Choice category, taking around 30% of more than 1,000 votes for his photo, Metrostation, taken in an underground station in Moscow.
The competition, now in its tenth year, celebrates the creativity of the construction industry and the passion of the people who work within it. Twelve photographers reached the final where they were voted upon by the public.
Caroline Gumble chief executive of the CIOB said: “So many images managed to create a sense of mood and place, it was a delight to judge the competition. The winning photographs both show the beauty and harmony in great architecture and is a reminder of the impact on our emotions and well-being that well-designed buildings can achieve."
