The roof of the iconic Department of Engineering designed by Sir James Stirling and Sir James Gowan at the University of Leicester has been trouble since it was completed in 1963.
The £19.5m refurbishment involved every one of the bespoke 2,500 panels of glass on the tooth saw roof replacing, mock up structures built and then wrapping the structure in a high-performance skin designed to meet the needs of regulation and heritage bodies.
Describing it has the most technically challenging roofing project in the world is no overstatement. Find out how contractor Lendlease did it here.
