A construction worker has died in a “construction traffic incident” at the construction site of nuclear power plant Hinkley Point C.

The BYLOR joint venture (Bouygues and Laing O’Rourke) is building the £23bn power station, which is due for completion in 2026.

A statement from client EDF said: “We are very sad to confirm that one of our team was involved in a fatal construction traffic incident this morning [Sunday] during planned work activities. The incident is being investigated by the police and the Health & Safety Executive and we will cooperate fully with the authorities.

“Work at the site has been stood down and we are offering support to colleagues affected by this tragic event. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult time.”

Avon and Somerset Police said it was liaising with the Health and Safety Executive after emergency services were called to the site at around 8.30am on Sunday (13 November).
