Wates appoints new head of offsite business

Dan Sadler

Wates has appointed Dan Sadler as the new offsite manufacturing director of Prism, its Coventry-based offsite manufacturing business.

Sadler was previously operations director for Wates Construction in the Midlands.

His focus at Prism will be to expand its offering by developing new innovations that can support greater use of offsite, and other modern methods of construction, on projects across the country. This expansion will form part of Wates’ restructured approach to delivering building services, announced earlier this year.

The Prism business, which last year relocated its manufacturing facility from York to larger premises in Coventry, has been a part of Wates Construction since its acquisition of Shepherd Engineering Services in 2015. Its offsite MEP services have been used on projects around the country including the Institute for Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (IAAPS) in Bristol, The Royal College of Surgeons in London and the Wellington Place development in Leeds.

Sadler joined Wates in January 2019 from NG Bailey and has worked on major projects including Eden School for Boys in Birmingham, and the Sandwell Aquatics Centre. He has also been responsible for overseeing the development of the region’s M&E offering.

Rob Clifford, managing director of Wates Integrated Construction Services, said: “Dan has made a huge impact on our business since joining, and his passion for finding new, better ways to deliver building services is exactly what we look for in all our senior leaders. Prism represents a huge opportunity to revolutionise construction – not just for Wates, but for the wider industry. I’m confident that Dan will deliver on its potential and more, and I look forward to working with him.”

Sadler said: “Offsite technology excites me – it can deliver projects faster, safer, to higher quality standards and with added value – particularly relevant to builds in the public sector.

“Prism already has a long history in delivering offsite excellence and my main focus will be elevating this even further, as well as looking at how it can support other modern advancements in construction and influence our environmental and net zero carbon agenda. By investing in research and embracing innovation we can help deliver better buildings, and I look forward to supporting this through my new role.”
