Roofing company Briggs Amasco has installed a new sedum roof covering at the Saltire Bistro in Inverness Castle.
The Highland Council said that the living roof, a Bauder Green Roof system, will provide additional habitats for pollinators such as bees and butterflies and will offer natural thermal and acoustic insulation to the bistro.
It will also manage rainwater runoff, helping to reduce pressure on the town centre drainage, and protect the roof below from UV, extending the overall lifespan of the roof covering.
As a newly installed feature, the roof will take time to fully establish and flourish, with its benefits increasing as the vegetation settles.
The green roof installation was part of the Inverness Castle Experience project, a tourist attraction backed by £30m investment from the Scottish and UK governments, among others, which is expected to open later this year.
