New footage shows two of the world’s largest-capacity tower cranes at HS2’s Old Oak Common station site.
Heavy lift contractor Marr and the Balfour Beatty Vinci Systra joint venture (BBVS JV) are using three cranes, comprising two of Marr’s 330-tonne capacity M2480D heavy lift luffing cranes, supported by a 96-tonne capacity M860DX, to declutter the site.
BBVS JV is HS2’s main contractor for Old Oak Common station. The project is being delivered using a design for manufacture and assembly approach, which requires high-capacity cranes.
Atul Jewitt, BBVS JV’s delivery director, said: “The deployment of heavy lift tower cranes from Marr’s UK operations at Old Oak Common is central to our construction strategy, enabling the safe and efficient installation of key structural components across the site.”
