Archaeologists have found an “extremely rare” and near complete prehistoric wooden spade during the construction of The Moors at Arne project in Dorset.

Preliminary scientific dating confirms the spade is around 3,500 years old, making it Bronze Age and one of the earliest wooden tools discovered in Britain.

Kier is delivering the compensatory habitat scheme project for the Environment Agency and partners RSPB and Natural England.
