Dundee Football Club has released a video showing its proposal for an all-electric stadium at Camperdown, Dundee.

The new 12,500-capacity stadium is designed by architect Holmes Miller, LJRH and a wider team of consultants.

It aims to minimise embodied and operational carbon in line with FIFA’s Green Goals initiative and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Sustainable features include low-energy LED floodlights and screens, photovoltaic panels, natural ventilation, 100% recyclable seating, a green roof to promote biodiversity, and rainwater harvesting.

It is expected that Dundee City Council will make a decision on the planning application this autumn.

  1. Will there be plenty of car parking space at the ground for disabled parking?

  2. For the greater benefit of the city, this has to happen. Despite recent investments in the modernisation of Dundee city, the V&A, Eden project, etc, our council seem to be putting blocks in the way of this, when instead they really should be fast tracking this application. A concert venue of this type is something that a city of this size must have if it wants to continue to attract tourism, further investment and develop a greater profile. I am not a football fan and I don’t know how this will severely impact traffic on the Kingsway or nearby retail park, but if it is for a few hours every second Saturday, it doesn’t seem to be a great hardship. The increase on a match day will be offset by the easing of congestion and parking around the current Dens Park area. Also try queueing to get into St Andrews whenever a golf tournament is on. That’s poor traffic management. Do Fife council plan on stopping golf tournaments coming to the town? Also, there seems to be complaints about building close to Camperdown Park. Wasn’t there a great big factory on this site before? Plus, the park is now an embarrassment to the city. Overgrown, unkempt, and not fit for purpose. Certainly this new venue can’t be classed as an eyesore next to the wasteland next door. So I wish the people in charge of this development all the success in the world. Hopefully our city planners can see the multiple benefits this brings and approves the plans accordingly. Perhaps it might encourage them to tidy up what was once a beautiful city park.
