US-based robotics and engineering company Boston Dynamics has released a video of its dog-like quadruped robot Spot inspecting a construction site.
The 75kg robot can carry a payload of 45kg and is equipped with 360-degree LIDAR scanning.
Now the company has begun field testing it for commercial usage around the world.
Following an initial mapping run, the robot was sent to navigate two construction sites in Tokyo in Japan, using a specialised payload for surveying work.
An additional camera added to the robot lets it do even more detailed inspection work on site, the company said.
The Spot robot will be available in the second half of 2019 for a variety of applications.

Thats the cleanest construction site I have ever seen in my whole life as a Construction Manager (50 years). Lets redo it on a typical construction site and see what happens!!
Who would have imagined such a machine 5 or 10 years ago; absolutely amazing. It is looking like a dog too. I would like to see what was recorded though. The video only goes so far. Maybe there is more to come.
