Demolition contractor Brown & Mason has carried out a controlled collapse of the 180m-high Rugeley power station chimney in Staffordshire.
The power station closed in 2016 ahead of plans to build 2,300 homes, commercial buildings and a school on the site.
Such was the height of the chimney that an exclusion zone extended to the nearby A51. Meanwhile there was no public viewing area for the demolition yesterday (24 January), as a result of covid-19 restrictions.
Other structures at the site have already been demolished, with the power station’s cooling towers set to be brought down later this year.
