Privately-owned contractor Bowmer & Kirkland has reached the first floor its new student project in Edinburgh.
Scheduled for completion in September 2018, steelwork construction is gathering pace, with the company completing the first floor on the 250-unit Vita Student site in the Fountainbridge area of Edinburgh city centre.
The project consists of 250 beds, as well as a 5,000 sq ft communal area, which includes a large social hub, movie room, gym, private dining and dedicated study areas.

Based in the industrial area of the city, Vita Student’s Edinburgh residence has been designed to incorporate the urban history and culture of the local area, including the Palais de Dance, the former dance hall it replaces, as well as design elements from the nearby rubber factory.
The development, due to open in September 2018, will also feature shops and leisure facilities and marks the final phase of the city’s Fountainbridge regeneration scheme, which includes retail, office and residential accommodation components.
Vita Student is a student accommodation provider owned by Select Property Group.
Neil Shaw, construction director for Bowmer & Kirkland, said: “B&K North-East and Scotland is delighted to be working closely with Select Property Group to deliver this prestigious project in a prominent area of the city of Edinburgh, where there continues to be a high demand for student accommodation.”
Mark Oakes, chief commercial officer of Select Property, said: “It’s great to be on site and seeing such progress. In such an iconic part of the city, we’re looking forward to becoming a valued Fountainbridge neighbour and welcoming students to their new home.”
The January/February 2026 issue of Construction Management magazine is now available to read in digital format.
