Aecom has offered a behind-the-scenes look at how it undertook the "complex" construction of the 2019 Serpentine Pavilion, designed by Japanese architect Junya Ishigami.
Aecom teamed up with contractor Stage One to build the ‘organically shaped’ struccture, which features an imposing stone roof made from Cumbrian slate.

The video shows how a slender structural steel frame, designed to support a roof six times its weight, was installed ahead of the 60 tonnes of slate.
The roof itself was built on site by hand by traditional stonemasons.
It was the seventh year in a row that Aecom has worked on delivering the Serpentine Pavilion and once again, the engineering firm produced a range of digital tools to help Ishigami visualise the final design, having piloted the use of Microsoft Hololens virtual reality headsets on Frida Escobedo’s Serpentine Pavilion last year.
